Profit factor calculator
Profit factor is total profit from winning trades divided by total loss from losing trades. Above 1 the record made money overall; below 1 it lost money. 30,000 of profits against 20,000 of losses gives a profit factor of 1.5. Use figures after charges for an honest number.

How it is calculated
Profit factor = sum of winning trades ÷ |sum of losing trades|
Worked example
Winners add up to 30,000 and losers to 20,000: 30,000 ÷ 20,000 = 1.5. After 5,000 of charges taken from the winners, it would be 25,000 ÷ 20,000 = 1.25.

Questions
What is a good profit factor?
Above 1 means profitable over the sample. How much above 1 is meaningful depends on the number of trades; small samples can mislead.
